I love places like this with an abundance of character and a rich history. It's been around since the 1930s, and you can see and feel it in the atmosphere around you. We stopped by for the classic "churros and chocolate" fix, and it was pretty good. The churros could have used a bit more sugar powder, but otherwise it was a very pleasant and authentic experience. The service is prompt, but be prepared to an exchange in Spanish.

We had breakfast at Dulcinea on our last day in Barcelona. I realized we had not had any churros or hot chocolate during our trip, so I found Dulcinea to remedy that. We arrived shortly after opening and were seated right away. We each had our own cup of hot chocolate, an order of churros, and an Ensaïmada Mallorca cake. Ensaïmada is a Mallorcan coil-shaped pastry and ours had this super delicious and creamy custard in the middle. It was so good, and I wish we had these in the US. The churros were warm and crispy and paired with the dark chocolate drinking chocolate was perfect. Service was very nice and friendly, and we had a really great breakfast.

Incredible atmosphere and service, we sat upstairs which was a great view! The pastries did not blow me away unfortunately!

Very good churros, we went through multiple plates! The chocolate was good and not too sweet. The cappuccino hit the spot as well

I encourage everyone to try churros from several places to really savor the subtle differences. The churros here are a little thinner. They are crispy on the outside (as they should be), but kind of sticky -- like mochi -- on the inside (1 star off). I prefer the churros that have more of a doughy consistency on the inside. They were still good, just not my cup of tea, or rather cup of hot chocolate!

We wanted to try hot chocolate at another spot, to compare and contrast to San Gines (Madrid) and local Granja Viader and admittedly, I had eaten way too many churros at the hotels and elsewhere. So we decided to have the Melindros cookies for a change. These cookies were like oversized lady finger cookies that's used for tiramisu. I once again ordered hot chocolate with fresh, whipped cream and that was excellent!! Looking back, I'd skip the Melindros cookies and get the churros instead. I guess I like the churro texture so much more. This is also close to La Rambla (Gothic quarter), so it's convenient to stop in and get your chocolate and sugar fix. It's definitely a solid choice as Dulcinea has been around since 1930.. I've also been to a Dulcinea in Iloilo (SM) but I'm sure there's no connection.

Crema Catalana: 4.25. Came by to try their crema catalana, Spain's version of creme brulee. Place was busy when I arrived just after 5 pm on a Sunday. I tried going to several recommended places on my way back to my hotel but they were closed until I found this place. I was greeted promptly at the door. I asked if I could order to go and staff mentioned a 1.5 euro charge for the special container. I decided to eat there. Dessert was brought to my table timely and it was a big portion. Too much for one person but it was very good so I ate it all. The price converted to USD from my credit card was $4.88. Based on the flavor and my appreciation of the dish, I was very satisfied. Staff was efficient and mostly friendly. Service: 4 Ambiance. 4 Value: 4

The service is great and the hot chocolate is even better. It's not too sweet at all. They even give you sugar to add if you'd like, but you don't need it. We also got the cookies the dip them in chocolate.
